Enoki Project using Quart Jars and My Fridge
    #6831831 - 04/25/07 11:34 AM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I just thought I would share a recent experiment that is coming along nicely.

First the substrate is made of hardwood chips, brown rice flour and worm castings. It took about 5 weeks to fully colonize.

You can't tell from the pic but there is a rolled up, moist paper towel wrapped around the top of the quart jar. Over the top of this is the ziploc bag with holes poked in it. There are 4 of these sitting in my fridge (50 degrees F) and so far this is the only one fruiting after 3 days. You can see the mushrooms forming in a cluster at the side.

The plus with using the ziploc as a humidity tent is that I can trim off the top and keep the sides extended up to help elongate the stems. That's the plan anyway. We'll see how it works.

UPDATE: 5/5/07

Here are some news pics. They are growing slowly but surely.

Very cool! Keep us updated. I like to see this species when it is wild too, because the comparisons are crazy. They really look like different species...

Hello!
if level of CO2 are high and the light is poor stems will elongate..as you see in Growing Gourmets and Medicinal Mushrooms in Stamets, Asian growers apply a long tube to induce stems elongation..in this way the msuhrooms are more easy to harvest. In nature as our friend Jeremy says..the comparison is totally crazy

In the wild, they are bigger, stumpier, and golden brown right?

In the pic that's on GGMM they seems yellow/orange, not so tall and the stem is more bigger in diameter..gro on stumps!
