RYE

I don't know about this rye shit.

1. Rinsed
2. Soaked for 36ish hours
3. Drained
4. Simmered for 20 minutes
5. drained in colander for 90 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes
6. loaded into quart jars (nice and shiny and not wet outside)
7. pc'd for 90 minutes
8. inoc'd with 1/2 cc of DARK spore syringe.

WTF did I do wrong? After three days, lots of beautiful myc growth and I shook them up to redistribute the myc. I just checked them this morning after 4 days and they ALL have suddenly aborted growth and look like someone just dumped an extra 1/4 of water per jar. I don't understand.

after shaking it takes time to recover. some recommend only shaking once at around 20%. i'm sure it will recover.

but if there is a lot of extra water that is a bad sign.

Give it more then 4 days to recover. It should have started to show signs of recovering a little bit by now though, surely?

im not sure if he meant 4 days after he shook or 4 days total and he shook on 3rd day. if it's only been 1 day then give it more time. if its been 4 and there is lots of water doesn't sound good.

Yeah...it has been ~9 days total in the incubation chamber. I don't understand the excess moisture since I do NOT humidify my incubation chamber. I also only keep the chamber at 76 degrees since I was running into problems earlier with it up around 82.

I've been saying for many years, and paul stamets has been sayin for over 20 years(it's in TMC) not to use an excessive amount of spores. It's counter productive. Since no print is 100% clean, the more spores you use, the more contaminats you inject as well. Since molds and bacteria grow faster than mushroom mycelium, dark syringes give the advantage to contaminants over the mushrooms.

The excess moisture you see is metabolic discharges from the mycelium trying to fight off the contaminants, and/or metabolites from the molds trying to fight off the mushroom mycelium. Start over, and use a very light syringe, or better yet, prove your spores on agar, and transfer a proved, clean mycelium culture into your rye and watch it take off.
