you should really minimize the light. some people think that light makes mushrooms grow faster, but theres really no proof that this works.
id give them minimal light each day, or have a dim light on top of the FC which i did once when i had to leave my crop. it seemed to work fine.
30 minutes of light is fine. some people ven go below 30 minutes. some for an hour or more. but if your talking about getting pins on your cakes then turn the lights on for 6-12 hours a day.
everyone has preferences, and no one really knows what times are better, but anywhere in the 6-12 hour range is healthy.
remember to give them darkness too though. thats part of the natural growth cycle as well.
once they pop up give them small incriments of light each day. you can spread up the time throughout the day as well if you please. 20 minutes now 20 mintues in an hour, etc.
good luck!

There's already been a thousand recent posts asking this exact question and the experts have already answered repeatedly until they're blue in the face. Try using the 'search posts' feature at the top of the page. Nobody wants to type it all over again, and lots of new growers will give very bad advice based on their limited experience. RR

But... to answer the guy's post, more light doesn't hurt, just make sure it's not incandescent. 24/7 with a fluorescent won't hurt your cakes/trays, and it will make help to produce a larger, more even pinset. The only way I use incandescents is to raise my FC temperature when it falls under 73 or so.

That's what I'm talking about. 24/7 is absolutely HORRIBLE for mushrooms, because primordia form during the period of darkness. The other answer that 30 minutes is enough is also wrong. I'd suggest the original poster search posts for his answer, and use 'hyphae' 'agar' or myself in the username section. Leave the other factors at their default setting. All of this has been covered and answered in detail many times in the last few months. RR
