jars stalling
    #6830375 - 04/25/07 12:47 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

folks,

i have jars going on 5 weeks. they have been at 85 -95% for about 2 of those 5 weeks. The problem was that my substrate was too wet which slowed the growth. (i assume) I cracked the lids and flipped the jars, but still nothing. (still pretty wet inside the jars, just large dropplets, no contams)

I went ahead and birthed one jar, dunk rolled and chambered it. no pins yet. (been 2 days)

should i consider these goners?

definately not goners... i've had pint cakes that took longer than five weeks and still got a bunch of great fruits off em. Some people will tell you that jars should never take this long but it doesnt mean they are trash, especially if its one of your first grows. 2 days is pretty quick to see pins, that can also sometimes take weeks. If you do have some jars that wont seem to finish colonizing you can sometimes cut off the uncolonized section and probably still get fruits.

yeah too early to start worrying... my fully colonized cakes have been in the fruiting chamber for about four days now and no pins... I've heard it can take up to 11 days and sometimes a little longer.

i figured the its too early to see pins yes. But i was just making sure they weren't completely void before expecting anything down the road.

Is there a reason to cut off the uncolonized areas of the cakes for fruiting? (most of which is colonized, just not as thick as i would of hoped for)
