Filter disks

Im new to growin mushies and have done the pf teck sucessfully. Im exploring better ways to do things and was wondering about filter disks. Do you use these in place of the foil/vermaculite layer on top of the jar? Do they work better than the foil/vermaculite layer? Thanks

Filter discs are unnecessary with the PF tek. They are great though if you work with whole grains.

No, it is not in place of the dry vermiculite layer. They provide better air exchange to the jars for faster colonization. They also have many other users being that they filter 99% of contaminates down to 0.03microns (or something like that) ?

Seeing Anno's post right before mine made me think of polyfill:

Filters do "SQUAT" (except for maybe drying out your substrate) when it comes to half-pint jars. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
