mycelium bruising?

I set up a heating pad in a drawer to raise the temps for incubation at night, and there are a couple small discolorations on 2 of my jars on the bottom. It is a bluish color, and doesn't seem to be progressing. It is not very dark and there is healthy mycelium around it. I think it may be the mycelium bruising from too much heat on the bottom and maybe drying out some. Is this possible? Thanks.

They don't need to be warmer than normal room temperature, and you certainly should never set them on a heating pad. If anything at all, put the heating pad in the drawer above the one the jars are in to gently raise the air temp, but with no direct heating. RR

Yea, I accidentally set them on top for a few hours. The pad is actually between shirts, so there was never direct contact, but now I have them set to the side. My house has bad insulation, so sometimes the temp drops pretty low at night. So i keep on the heat at night. It stays a comfy 80 degrees in there, and since I put it in, the growth has progressed substantially faster. They're equadors by the way. Thanks again RR.

I'm sure you may have thought of this but you may want to look into making a tub in tub incubator if your house temperature is not conducive to room temperature incubation.Heating bads are not only inconsistent but also can pose a fire hazard,I have said this many times but fire brings fireman, fireman bring policemen and policemen bring shiny little bracelets for people who like to grow mushrooms.Remember you and I and everyone here knows the difference but the court system sees no difference between your jars and a fully stocked meth lab
Be careful,if you cant be careful now, don't grow mushrooms till you have a place where you can be,I'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to give some honest advice to think about
Good luck

Yea, I plan on making one over summer, but right now I am in the middle of finals and I have 4 almost 100% colonized jars. So I am just trying to speed up the process a little by keeping the temp. at 80 degrees 24/7. I only use the heating pad when I am at home and can check on it regularly. You are right though, being careful is very important and thanks for the relpy.
