Heat stalling? Or dead jars?
    #6823897 - 04/23/07 04:22 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I've got sixteen half-pints coming in, and growth was slow to start with, but then they kicked off pretty well and got to about 50% after a couple of weeks. Now here's the rub: they were exposed, for maybe six hours, to a temp that read about 100-105F. Now I haven't seen any growth in about six days, even did marker lines on the jars for reference.

Will an excessively high temp for a short while *kill* the jars, or might it just stall them? Is there a chance of recovery, or am I wasting time by not starting over? This is also a third-gen clone, so I'm concerned the mycelium might not be as vigorous as it would have been from a multispore.

Now, if so, that could go either way in my book... it could mean they're taking longer because they're third-gen, or it could mean they're going to die because they're third-gen. Who knows?

Bump? Curious. Anybody ever had a jar recover from excessive heat exposure?

I might be seeing some growth now, so I'm less worried, but it's still importantant to know whether heat can stall a jar without killing it at times.
