Humidifying without a hygrometer
    #6824688 - 04/23/07 08:06 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

A friend of mine bought a hygrometer for her terrarium that she humidifies with a cool mist. Turns out the hygrometer is a piece of shit. Big surprise right? Well she doesn't have the funds to buy a proper hygrometer at the time. She has casings in her fruiting chamber that are being humidified by her cool mist. Dose anybody have any ideas on ways to tell if the proper humidity is being kept in the pinning and fruiting stages?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Cracked caps and a dry casing layer would tend to indicate humidity too low, and water everywhere tells you it's too much. For terrariums, you should use perlite for humidity. Cool mist humididifiers are overkill for a terrarium, and hard to get dialed in without cycle timer.

Perlite and holes solves that problem. When it comes to terrariums, simple is better.

Well I guess shes just going to use perlite and hook the cool mist up to a timer to come on every couple of hours for fae. Shell also mist a couple times a day.

Any comments on this method?
