casing issues
    #6827153 - 04/24/07 11:33 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

A friend of SWIM is casing and having a few issues. Each casing has their own fruiting chamber. Now one casing is doing fabulous, several little guys are peaking their way up through the soil, one is actually pretty big, and they're getting bigger by the hour. Sadly though the other three casings are a bit lackluster. Haven't seen any progress from them really.

It's been a few days since that friend of SWIM's threw them in the chambers and tried to initiate pinning. The casing soil does look a bit dry. Should they be misted lightly? Should they be cold shocked? What should SWIM's friend do?

Casing layers should NEVER be allowed to dry out or they won't pin. They need to be misted several times per day. You want as close to 100% humidity as you can get, and as much air exchange as you can get, so that requires a lot of misting.

You didn't say what species you're growing. If it's a cold weather fruiting edible, give it a five to seven day cold shock. If it's a tropical species such as cubes or pan cyans, don't cold shock.
