OK, I did a little digging around the net checking prices and techniques on the topic of air purification (Unfortunately, I can't invest much time in a week day to do the proper research due to my damn JOB!). I found UVGI and HEPA stuff. Both are really expensive and unobtainable for some. What else could we use to cheaply disinfect the air to a point suitable for this hobby? I have some ideas, maybe not all suitable for inside use though. How about a copper tube, a filament inside and a propane tank to produce heat for the filament? How about using electrical plasma? How about using a bunch of poly-fil (wouldn't it work if one applied enough in a contained space? There MUST be some other viable options that we haven't though of yet. Your thoughts benefit us all!

Yup. A glovebox will work as well as a flowhood for inoculations, they're just more cramped. Oust helps to spray the air half an hour before you begin work, but there's no need to use anything but soap and water to clean the inside of the glovebox with.
The terrarium need not be sterile. I drill hundreds of holes in mine. The more air the better because contaminants only grow in stale, damp, still air. RR

I've seen you type this quite a bit in the last week or two. I'm going to stop spraying so much damned isopropyl, and just use some windex or something. LOL

Hmmm... This is a major concern for me. I had only one syringe and inoculated only two jars (dumb). One fell to wet-spot and has been removed as soon as I could accurately discern what it was. This leaves me with only one jar left. I plan to chop the cake up and distribute the myc. through out a few quart jars of rye. I cannot afford to mess this up and wish to ENSURE maximum sterility. I would rather spend money (but not that much) than be forced to order another syringe. I didn't find that to be very much fun.
All of this aside, I still think that a little fresh creativity in this area is slightly lacking... If I had more time I could try a few things out, but until then I just wanted to throw 'experimental air purification' out there and see what the community could come up with. Maybe this doesn't fall under basic cultivation, I don't know. It does seem to me that not many beginners are too interested in this area of mycology. I might be jumping the gun there, I don't know. Again, I say it would be nice for something cheap, easily available and HIGHLY effective to come about in the realm of sterility.
As for me, back to the glove box... with better technique!

Well, one time I sprayed the box with alcohol, let it evaporate, then went to flame the needle and *POOF*: fireball!
I went and cooled the burns on my arms, and came back to inoculate.
Zero contams. LOL
NOTE: I do not suggest setting flame or combusting anything...especially indoors.
