I know the recipe for BRF sub, but here's an unanswered question...

Okay so I know the recipe, 5 cups verm 2.5 cups brf, 2.5 cups water
However, when I did my first batch years ago, I wondered about this and still do. I don't use that method really anymore, but it just came to mind so I thought I'd ask for the sake of the newer members...
When measuring the water, do you use a liquid measurer, or just continue to use the measuring cups you used for the verm and brf? I ask because liquid measurements are different than solid ones.
This all just came to mind when I thought how my jars used to be a bit more wet than most...and then remembered the fact that I used to use a liquid measuring cup for the water (as common sense would dictate).

Volume is volume, dude. If we were talking ounces here then I could see where you might want specification regarding fluid ounces vs. weight ounces. Cups of vermiculite can be measured with the same peice you are measuring your BRF and water. Scant and packed are two terms that can be used when measuring solid volume. Scant meaning loose and packed being compressed.

Hmm...I thought the liquid measuring cup was a slightly different "liquid" volume.
I stand corrected and informed. Thanks.

There's a slight difference, yes. It isn't enough to matter. I use the same measuring cup for both, and use volume measurements. In other words, forget about ounces vs fluid ounces, and simply use two parts verm for each one part of water and rice flour. RR

RR,
No disrespect meant here, but if there is a difference between dry volume and liquid volume I'd love to see some information regarding that. I've spent 5 years working in a laboratory and have a BS in Mech Engineering degree and would be flabbergasted if I somehow missed that somewhere. This would be one of life's real WTF moments for me. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I'm truly troubled by my lack of knowing this. The only thing I can think that you might be thinking is bulk density. Please elaborate for me.
