hey i found this "special" soil, it has four ingredients that seem interesting: peat moss, peat humus, vermiculite, and dolomitic limestone (it says that it helps bring acidity closer to a neutral range), what do you think??? does it look like a good medium to grow mushrooms? it looks pretty good to me but i want to hear your opinions...

Was looking good except for the Dolomitic limestone. It has magnesium in it which will not be good for mycelium. If it lists a percentage and it's less than 2% magnesium it should work but I doubt this will be the case.

Casing = non-nutritive layer that retains moisture and hydrates the spawned substrate (and produces even flushes).

I shy away from soils b/c they can add nutrients that you don't want.

Go to a pet store and get Coco Coir. Mix with Vermiculite or use solo.

Others use Peat in verying combinations with Verm. or CC.

I agree with Musher--see what the % is. My guess is it is like .03%, which would be okay, but you should check.

Coir is nutritive. It's not a proper casing, but many get away with it, myself included because I didn't know at the time I used it.

You could use this more as a casing than anything... Try it out!

Just make sure when you do case, you case poo
