Koi Samui Colonising well - B+ doing nothing?
    #6821946 - 04/23/07 05:35 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

5 of each type, I have been keeping the jars at between 84 and 89 degrees and after 2 weeks (colonised by spore syringe taken from prints) the Koi Samui is almost fully colonised but Cubensis B+ is hardly doing anything, some have a spot or two of primary mycelium as big as my pinky nail, some nothing at all!

What gives?

oh... forgot to mention - PF TEK

Seems to be contamination.
B+ is slow colonizer but if the Koh Samui is almost completely colonized your B+ seems to me fucked...

Cant see any contamination

This is my first growing attempt... maybe B+ is just THAT slow?

Ok, I'll try that.. I thought the optimum temperature was widely accepted to be around 86. The jars are supposed to fully colonize in 2 weeks at 86 (which the koi is doing) but much longer at lower temperatures. I did some homework on all this before I started but maybe I was ill informed?

Cheers

I am using 200ml square tuppaware jars (cant find canning jars here in Australia) The jars still show plenty of moisture inside and they were prepared as per the PF TEK water ratios. All the jars were filled from the same mixture so the only difference is the strain. I guess it is possible that the Koi is THAT much faster in colonising.. I purchased the spore prints from Hawk Eye.. The Koi was a really large print and the B+ was a third the size (about the size ou a US 25c). Both were left to hydrate in the syringe for 24hrs.
Also, I have them in a cardboard box inside a trash-bag and the whole thing inside a tub-in-tub with an aquarium heater providing the heat via 3 inches of water between the tubs to keep the temperature constant.

I'd definitly lower your incubation temps a bit. I did'nt really know B+ to be a slow strain. From my personal experience it has went crazy fast opposed to everything else I have done. Could have just been the vendor I got it from, particular strain, ect.

uhhh, no one going to say ne thing about heat. no hotter than 82. cause jars are few degrees warmer. YOu don't want it warmer than 86.
