Folks,

building a FC using the 'tropic aire' setup. Have a clear plastic tank with humidifier running along the bottom then covered with Perlite. I am attaching an aquarium light cover with 2 15W incandescents.

my questions are, how many hours throughout the day should my lights be on. (I've researched all sorts of mixed opinions) And should it be completely dark during the hours the light is NOT on?

Thanks in advanced!

Incandescents waste electricity, give off heat and do not even give off the right spectrum of light to stimulate pinning. Get a fluorescent or two.

You don't need to be strict with the timing, but if you must: 12 hours on/12 hours off (pure darkness) to emulate day and night cycle. You can get by just turning the light on when you wake up, and turning it off before bed.

Thanks.

Also, should i add some peroxide to the water contained in the tropica aire filter to avoid contams?
