Just soaked WBS, about to PC, is it supposed to be soggy and mushy?
    #6819589 - 04/22/07 03:52 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I let my WBS soak in gladware for about 25 hours. It smells bad but the millet seeds don't seem to have expanded much and they're not squishy, they're still kinda hard, i can squish them but they're not what i would call squishy.

so whats the word?

thanks!

You're supposed to boil after the soak so they can steam dry on the surface before loading the jars. Boiling also completes the inner hydration, which is where you want the moisture. If you load the jars with wet grains, they'll ruin. Either boil, then when you drain into a collander, shake them around to steam off the surface moisture(preferred), or as an alternative, dry them by laying on a towel before loading. I prefer the former.

280 grams millet

250 grams water

1 gram gypsum (optional)

24 hours (give or take a few hours)

it has worked 1000's of times for me with 100% success rate

dont have a scale, buy one, weight it out in a cup, put a mark (tape) where the 250 grams (water) 280 grams (millet)

return scale

RR... I read somewhere to bring water to a rolling boil, add seeds, then remove from burner and cover and let seep for 30-45 min then let drain in strainer, is this what you're talking about or do you mean put seeds in water and then boil for a bit and then strain and let sit?

tony, so what does the seed look and feel like after the soak? I didn't measure the water but I covered 4 cups of WBS and let it sit for 24 or so hours... the sunflower seeds were mushy but the millet still seemed hard.
