Okay,
a bit of good news came to me today.
Several pieces of good news and one of bad. First the good news.
I just obtained the permission from the U of Mich for some DNA specimens of their original P. caerulipes mushrooms and for some samples for SEM work and a few for chemical analysis, and a spore culture to look at the spores separately from, the SEM, although we already have a 1959 chemical analysis of P. caerulipes by Leung and Paul.
This could take some time, possibly a few months. I am also waiting on the DNA for the P. semilanceata.
Bad news, Louisiana is preparing a bill listing all Panaeolus, Psilocybe and Amanita muscaria mushrooms and their spores as illegal in their state. included in their list of spores is Ipomoea violacea. Stupid Louisiana legislature does not know those are perennial plants. Not shroom spores.
And they apparently do not know that Ipomoea violacea is the morning glory vine, not a producer of mushrooms.
So I will irritate them with a letter of correctness for their stupidity.

Four kids busted picking the P. ovoideocystidiata in Weirton, West Virginia; See Below:\
Quote:
Kids Caught Picking Hallucinogenic Mushrooms
http://www.wtrf.com/story.cfm?func=viewstory&storyid=23419
WEIRTON -- Four people have been arrested for picking hallucinogenic Psilocybin mushrooms.
These mushrooms could harm or even kill someone if used improperly, police said.
WTRF's news cameras went into the woods with authorities and spotted the mushrooms right away.
Police warn if you get caught picking them you will be arrested.
The mushrooms are narcotics and considered the same as heroin or LSD, according to police.
mj, I wrote to the news station and debunked some of their comments to them. Hope they reply. Most never do.

I have a question regarding P. caerulipes. The species was orginally listed as a fall mushroom. After all of the finds of P. ovoideocystidiata in the spring people are know claiming P. caerulipes is a spring mushroom. Of course the claim was made when everyone thought P. ovoideocystidiata was P. caerulipes. Mj do you think P. caerulipes is accutally a fall mushroom, or do you think it is a spring mushroom like P. ovoideocystidiata.

Both species share the same season.
May to about September
WE are currently waiting on specimens to arrive in bangkok, just ordered to do the comparitive DNA sequencing of both, spore images and chemical analysis.
I will see that Workman also gets a spore supply of the P. caerulipes specimesn to cultivate

These are powerful mushrooms! Be wary!
One of my friends, who has tripped shrooms at least 20 times before, took about 3 grams of my caerulipes last friday, and got so high that he became nearly comatose, and his friend had to (well he probably shouldn't have) take him to the ER.
Have fun!

For all who live by the appalacian mountains...
I moved there and i know a lot about bloofoots just by reading up.. anyway where i live is about 3000 foot elavation and is in the western part of virginia...going to virginia tech for school next year so thats exactly were its at... Anyway this area was foothills and mountains all around and its beutiful..but i wonder if the elavation and the fact im in the mountains more will effect the chances of me finding bluefoots. or vis versa.....does it increase my chances..?? thank you

I went down to MustardMan's spot on Thursday after a pretty big rain; no magic mushrooms unfortunately, we combed the whole field. Oh well, maybe next time.

Some Bluefoot:
Some morels:
Some impostors:
In the last Photo, the mushrooms on the right are bluefoot and the mushrooms on the left are an unknown species that looks like blue foot from the top and feels like bluefoot, but does not smell like bluefoot or have a blue foot. All the impostor were growing in amongst the bluefoot, except for the verpa which was fond within six inches off a morel.

Dan those really do not look anything like a baeocystis.
Here are some images of baeos/
And intense blueing in normal sized shrooms and one larger specimen.
While they are lawn shrooms here is one from Cardboard form Bellingham a few years back.
The caps have a small nipple at the top and the caps resemble, slightly a liberty cap cap, while Falcons has a large umbo in the center and very thick stems compared to most baeos.
Remember that the pleated cap edges are a common characteristic of the genus Psilocybe
Cardboards Baeos were smaller ones from wood chipped mulch and top soils,
while cyanshamans are from a lawn.
Here is one more of mine from the 1990s. Again observe the tiny i nipple on the top center of the ap and trhe long cap hanging down, Although sometimes they do have a larger cap with smaller edges and pleats.
Mjshroomer.
Noticed the length of the caps and the thinness of the cap

Do some walking and go look.
No one is going to show you there private plots.
You need to get out and walk around every day. Do not forget they also grow n garden beds in public places as well as along streams and river banks. They come in with mulched gardens and fertilizers spread in those land areas.

Yeah man I'm definitely gonna go on a hunt after the next big rain. Only next time I'll bring a lot of grass so we can have a little more fun and search for longer without getting bored
