Hi shroomers,
I recently drove from Florida all the way to Oregon. Along the way we lodged at a place in Redding California. In the back of the hotel was a nice grassy area. At the edge of the grassy area were small piles of woodchips. The wood chip pile habitat is seen here in this first image:
And here are the mushrooms found growing in the woodchips:
 Zooming in:
 And another:

The shrooms mycelium did not stain blue. The purple and yellow colors of this mushroom remind me of Gymnopilus luteofolius, only the shrooms do not have any blue or blue green coloring/staining on them. And these specimens were noticeabley smaller in size than the G. luteofolius i remember finding in Florida. And i am curious what species they are.
Spore print color was bright rusty orange.
They are the first and only mushrooms i have found in California. And my shroom books have yet to be unpacked..
I went about 18 days without the internet, and now i am back in business (just not in florida anymore).

Sorry but GGreatOne234 has the Hessler monograph on Gymnopilus mushrooms. Even the experts in this genera have a difficult time identifying the different species in the genera.
