different lights/different results?

how much of an effect does light have on the shrooms? say a fluorescent vs. sunlight, or sunlight vs. h.i.d. What spectrum does the shrooms take in anyways? w/ growing weed, during veg it likes blue spec, during flower it shifts to the orange/red. i'm curious if i can put my hps or mh over my shrooms to affect its' growth. any ideas?

Mushrooms are not like pot plants, they don't get energy from the light, jsut a direction in which to grow.

Light is very significant in a shroom's development, but it doesn't derive energy from it. A shroom in cow shit is looking for it's way up and out to drop spores, so when it finally gets into daylight, it grows directly toward it. For example, back a year ago I had a casing in a black bucket about 10 inches tall, 10 wide, with a hole in the top for light.. The shrooms knew the light was way up there, so instead of developing big caps or getting thick, they focussed on getting all the way up the bucket. I ended up with 10 inch shrooms with caps about 3/4 of an inch wide. So basically, they're looking for direction to a safe spot to open. Hope that helps.

Oh, and try shining a sky blue/white light on 'em.. I believe they react more to the blue/uv side of the spectrum. Doesn't have to be anything powerful. If you can see the shrooms with the light you're giving them, they should be fine.

well, with you stating that, does the amount of light make a difference on size? your mushies grew little cuz of a little hole w/ light. so if in the open w/ a bright source of light(just a bright room)will that effect the size in general? thanks for your replies.

I would say immitate an open outside field. Give it light from the top, but keep the sides open to the light, either with white or clear container walls. It doesn't have to be anything incredibly bright, just something telling the shrooms that they're outside. If they know where the light is coming from, but don't think they have to grow up out of anything to get to it, you're probably fine.

righty-o, cheerio! i've been just keeping it in a room w/ an open window and the cieling light on. then off during the night. it seems like they grow most during the night. does the amount of light make a difference? thanks for all the help shadow man!
