Mine's in a nice south facing window, with a daily misting (by hand, whenever I think of it) and it's doing quite nicely. I don't see what all the high tech fuss is about. In the winter lights might make sense, or if you live in a dark basement suite.

it is not about being a hater, it is do you want to pay 50 bucks a month for something that is not needed, as far as the bottom branches dying off i have never had a problem running 2, 4 foot fluro slanted from the top off to the side.

if you dont mind paying the money then you are golden, good luck

Kind of a tangent, but would a north-facing window without shades do fine?

Salvia just can't use that kind of light, it's a rain forest understory plant, meaning it's perfectly suited to shaded low light conditions. Using an 400W HID is just silly.

No one is spreading crap.. This is a discussion forum and if one doesn't want peoples opinions then one should avoid posting here. No one has been mean, just said what they think about it..

thanks and also
High Pressure Sodium (HPS) or Metal Halide (MH) lights can also be used. They come in 400w and 1000w sizes. Unless you have a large area to cover, the 400w is plenty. A 400w MH system costs about $200 and puts out as many lumens as twenty fluorescent bulbs. This fixture would provide enough light for an eight by eight foot growing space. However, you need to be careful to keep the light at least two feet above the tops of the plants. If the leaves start to blush red, then the light is too close. Leaves will lighten in color when exposed to high light levels; this is fine and does not affect potency
which means 20 bulbs at 40 watt ea =1,200 watts being used, that means im saving 800watts. does this ring any bells. thanks

They will grow fine under an MH but they will do just as well under a few cheap fluros.

HID lights are much better suited to heavy flowering plants like cannabis.

Like I said, using a 400w hid for salvia is unnecessary overkill but it's your money.

i had mine under full sun and high humidity (natural ranges) and it grew SLOW (very healthy compact growth). flours gave me healthy bushy larger leaves...so i too use flouros instead. but i think a HPS at 600W would probably work great so long as it was too hot and dry.
