Something isn't right about that jar. Maybe you mixed your substrate too wet. If that's the case you're probably fine.

in that case, would it suffice to air them out? crack the lid, or uncover the foil from the inoc holes?

The aluminum foil isn't needed, the dry layer of verm at the top takes care of keeping contams out.  Or at least it should.  I don't want to say the jar is contaminated but it doesn't look right. The picture quality could be better :undecided:.  You should remove the tin foil and post some pics in the contamination forum.

Also... is it still colonizing?  If it's not, then those spots didn't colonize for a reason and its time to start over.

they are still seem to be making progress.. myc is pure white and the areas that arent is just substrate... no sign of contam. (it may look mucky from the photos)
but its just moist substrate. Guess ill remove the foil and microtape.

I'm sorry but I just can't see what's goin on in those pics very well. At least it looks white so theres a good chance it's good to go...

Are those like 1 inch tall jars though? Or is it just optical illusion?

If they are, holy hell...

I suggust taking any foil and tape off, loosen the lid a tad and flip the jars upside down and tamp them down a little on the palm of your hand so that there is a little bit of room in between the bottom of the cake and the bottom of the jar; so that the mycelium can fully colonize the bottom of the cakes.

And the pics would need to be better for more information as to the actual condition of the cake. Blurry/fuzzy pictures don't say much of anything. High res does wonders.(just a tip for future reference)

Good luck with your grow:thumbup:

As said above, the foil should be removed after sterilization. It's only to prevent condensation from the lid of the kettle from dripping down on top of the jars, ruining the moisture content. Left in place, it can cause moisture buildup in your dry verm contaminant barrier, slowing the exhcange of gasses and leading to contaminants that can colonize through the damp verm to the brf below.
