Healthy mycelium or cobweb?
    #6804311 - 04/18/07 12:49 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Oyster culture here. The white stuff is very puffy. I would like to think it's puffy mycelium due to the humidity. But am afraid that it could possibly be cobweb. Need an experienced eye here.

Oh and its colonized oyster grain spawned onto brown paper bags soaked with 9:1 water:3%H202 with drops squeezed out.

*WHEW* Thanks RR.
At this point I have no choice. I don't want to go in digging and ripping up the mycelium for a transfer. First time doing this so I just want to see some fruits  .

What I did was place the entire jar in the fridge for a cold shock. How many days should I leave it in there? 2 days?

Then I plan on keeping the jar in a fruiting chamber. Or do oysters require different situations?

I wouldn't use a fruiting chamber. Oysters are EXTREMELY CO2 intolerant during fruiting. They'll grow really long stems with no caps, and the caps are the edible part. What are your outdoor temps this time of year, day and night? One solution is to put them outside every night when the humidity is naturally high, and bring them in mid-morning when they've had some light, but no direct sun. You can increase the humidity by watering the lawn or something in the area you place them at night. Then, put them in a FC with lots of perlite and the lid loose to get through the day. Even better is to find a shady, cool, moist place to keep them outside during the whole fruiting cycle. The oyster above was grown in my mini-greenhouse with a small refrigeration unit running and massive amounts of fresh air exchange.

Wow, oysters- not AS simple and carefree as I thought.

Temperature varies around these parts.
RR, How about just a high humidity FC with an airpump to deliver oxygen to the cakes? Along with some sort of green plant?

No. Outdoors, or as I suggested.

Somewhat in each section. The whole segment on contamination had to be cut this round. There was too much other stuff for it to be included in this set. I filmed enough to make several additional DVD's, so there will be sequels.
