For a first time grower, you want simplicity and a guarantee of success.
There is only one kit on the market that is a simple two step process with guaranteed results. You posted this in the wrong forum for this subject, but that actually may be a good thing because the information I'm about to give you would catch a lot of flack in the proper forum. Here goes:

Go visit http://www.homesteadbook.com and look at their EZ-Gro kit.
$108 delivered with a guarantee that you'll grow high quality P.C. shrooms.
They aren't a sponsor here because they don't have the time or patience to keep up with the forums/flames/arguments/questions, etc.

The kit is small and not designed for high yield (comes with just 5 pounds of super high quality compost). There is no guarantee on the yield, but most people get around 100-150 medium size shrooms. (about 20-30 grams dried).

Some say the kit's a rip-off 'cause you can get much higher yeild with other methods at less cost, but they're not taking the effort, difficulty, and lack of guaranteed success into consideration.

They (Homestead) have an 800 number for credit card orders, been around for 25 years and they're very nice people to deal with.

I have one of these kits. It works. Nuff said. Enjoy your trips.

In reply to:

I didn't notice anywhere on the site suggesting refund on failiure to produce shrooms. How solid is that guarantee

If you just want to get high without the hassle and you have money to burn then mabye that kit is the best way to go...but.

get a syringe, get a myco bag... $30 tops, simple as that.

ignore the post about the $108 kit. if you decide you want to get a more serious setup, you can build one for a lot cheaper.

Hey box...

I'm a beginner grower, so give me a break. Mycology is not so easy, especially in a studio apartment. When I become more experienced, I'll try other tek's, but for now this is what's working when nothing else has for me.

When I decide to try the PF Tek, I might well buy supplies from you, so don't alienate a potential customer.

Was 0 for 8 on Mycobags. Zero mushrooms, nada, nichts, zilch. Did get a complete refund though. I suspect that the filters were too limiting on the air flow, as there were no contams; they just stalled completely.

Did my own filter patch bags also with no success. I have one still trying to fruit after 3.5 months. It only started to do OK after I opened the bag after 3 months.

OTOH, I have had good success with jars and Tyvek filters.

Get lucky, or get a bag full of mold, contamination, or nothing at all. Simple as that!

I've used the myco bags before. 5 total bags, all grew mycelium. 4 out of 5 fruited. From each of these, 3 to 4 flushes, with an average of 4 dry grams per flush. First flushes were higher, around 6 to 7 grams, weight diminishing with each flush to about 3g. Really couldn't have been easier. Inject, keep warm, pick mushies! All were different strains. Golden Teachers did the best, Taz are the ones that didn't fruit. I say go with the mycobags. They really do work.

Whatever you do, don't get the Homestead kit. I bought it. Didn't work. Then I learned how to grow mushrooms with great success and less expense. I suggest you do the same. It is very gratifying.
Never tried Mycobags but some people swear by them.

First of all: this belogs in mushroom cultivation and NOT trip tips.

Now, IMHO homestead kits are overpriced and crap. I've heard too much bad stuff about them. The myco-bags are okay but not 100% successful but sporeworks are great guy i'm sure you'de have no problem. Dimitri (bluethumbs) has a VERY NICE beginner kit for $60 or so (two syringes..12PF jars and a terrarium....or something like that?)

I decided to start trying other tek's right along side and just placed a $41 order for some of those great spores of yours! See? Told you I might become a customer!
Now, aren't you glad you gave me shit about the kit?

If you're growing shrooms just so you can eat some for the first time or whatever, try going to http://www.mycotopia.net/teks/invitrotek.html
It's a Tek where you can make the mushrooms fruit inside the jar. Yield is usually around 3-7 grams.
