YAPCQ (Yet Another Pressure Cooker Question)
    #6800356 - 04/17/07 03:46 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I've read things in threads about PCs, but they all recommend All American. I've also read that the PC needs to be at least 15 psi in order to properly sterilize. With that in mind, lets continue.

I'm looking for a PC locally that I can buy at a local store. I'd like to keep it under $100. The local Walmart has 2 different PCs, but one says it maxes out at 10psi and the other one doesnt say.

I've looked online at Target's store (to get an idea of what Target has, I havent made it out there yet), and they have a large assortment of PC's apparently. None of them say at what PSI they cook at, and some of them say some BS about automatic pressure adjustment or something.

My question is, what PCs on the Target website are suitable for sterilization? Are All American PCs the only ones you can adjust psi on?

the pressure cooker in agar's link is not found in walmart stores (see: online only). they don't even offer free site to store shipping on it anymore :frown:. Shipping will kill you on that deal.

I've looked at all the local stores around here, couldn't find any big ones. I did find one on craigslist.org however (not a store but local classifieds). Not an AA but a good deal and can fit 7 quart jars in it. better than anything i've found at local stores.

I found that exact model in my local Wal-Mart. They still stock them here. I see them when I do my weekly shopping trip. Presto's are very decent if you can't go AA.

I don't really want a big one anyway, just one I can fit at least 6 jars in. Most of the Prestos Ive seen say that the pressure is automatically rated, if you can find a suitable small one thatd be awesome.

Wait I realized that I said 6 jars, and not specifying the jar size... I mean the PFTEK jars, the 1/2 pint jars, I'm not tryin to do a mass grow here fellas, just personal, so any small PC for a personal grow is what I'm looking for.

PS AGAR: How do you determine if that PC will go to 15psi?

Another PS for AGAR: so I clicked your link and checked the shipping for it, 95 dollars btw which I'm sure you knew that, but I saw that it said... "CONTINUE SHOPPING in search results for "fear"  " haha whats up with that ya sick bastard

Hello everyone ,

I have been reading this post and I have looked at my PC specification sheet where it says that my Pc would max reach 0.8 kgrs/cm2. Any idea of how many psi are this ??

i'd say 10 psi,though maths isn't a strong point.
i think you need to add 15 -20 minuites to your cooking times,
when following a tek based on 15 psi.

Those 21-22qt prestos are solid. I use one, it's great.

Can you use one that is rated for 10psi but let it cook longer?

I've never cooked at less than 15 psi, so I am not sure.  Sorry Nickio.

y take the risk of trying to use a PC that cant achieve 15 psi? i got a presto from sears that works great.

ive read about AA's keeping almost all the water u put into them so u dont have to worry about it running dry, which my presto wont do.
