new comer to cultivation, new member all togather help please
    #6804571 - 04/18/07 02:00 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

HEY!!! whats up, I'm new here. Blue foots grom in my regen, northern WV.
Mad mushrooms when the season hits.

so, here is the question. So other then the wild ones we pic, we happen to have some growing in my flower bed, they arrived in the mulch, I would say some 60+ caps have sprouted in this 5x5 bed, they have now for 2 years. They are right in plain view of my parents who don't know what they are, but surly will kill them. I want to move some of the micelium into a container and else where. I will leave it out side. any thing i should know. should i just take a large flat tuba-ware pan, 4 inches deep drill holes in the bottom, and just scoop of 3 or so inches of the dirt put it in the pan but be real carefully not to disturb it at all? straw on the bottom right? nice shady spot.

i'd say that if your parents have tried for two years to kill them and still havent succeeded, they might be pretty hearty and you'd have a good chance of growing your mystery mushrooms. If you'd like to find out what they are, head over to the "mushroom hunting" form.
Some species are dependent upon certain elements in their environment for survival...

Mushrooms have sprouted out of the same 5x5 bed for two years...?

Do you know what specimen they are? Are they yellow mushrooms, these usually grow along trees and flowers in flower pots.

the mushrooms are what we have allwas called "blue foots" they grow in the woods along the creek as well, allot of them. I looked up locations and came up with "Psilocybe caerulipes"

My parents have not tried to kill them YET, thats why i want to attempt to start my own;

1.attempt the vermiculite + brown rice flower method (need vermiculite)
2.millet bird seed method
3. my own out door bed after those no longer produce fruit

They first arrived in from of my house when we planted some perennial flowers and mulched around them, the mycelium has spread ALL through the much now, and caps are popping up already 60 this year, over the season last year i picked about 200-250 just from my bed.

BTW how do i harness the spors from these to use in our own project??

Jesus christ, that's amazing luck. Didn't know there was anything native to WV--being a Marylander I wonder what I couldn't do here, outside.

There are teks to show you how to make a spore print, which will hold the spores safely for years to come. Basically:

Cut off a cap, clean as you can (though it's outdoors, so don't expect superclean prints), and pop it on a piece of tin foil. Set a glass on it. After a few days, remove the glass and the cap, then fold up the tinfoil tight like you're storing acid tabs (fold the edges over on themselves). Keep this in a dry or cold place, and it will last for a good long while. From there, you can learn how to make a spore syringe from the teks, and if you're lucky you'll have some relatively clean spores to work with.

Even if they're really filthy spores, you're bound to get SOMETHING out of them, maybe one jar in five at worst. From there you can do tissue clones or clean prints.

Yes, last summer we picked about a large brown paper Kroger bag full in the woods in 10 days with 3 people...had em 3 nights a wee all summer for %100 free.
