shake rye jars??

hi, i have 12 rye jars incubating for about 2 weeks now... everything seems to be going fine... i shook them on 2 different occasions.. but they seem to be forming one big rye cake, is this normal? do i wait till 100% colonized and scoop the mycelium out with a spoon? or do i keep shaking?
also, after i shake the rye, they seem to look like the mycelium is gone... if i shake at 100% colonized, wont i set myself back??
if someone can explain this process to me real quick it will be greatly appreciated, thx in advance.

You only need to SHAKE ONCE.... Around 25% colonization.
Any more can/will impede, or even stall growth.
Yes, a wbs/jar colonizes solid. I use a spoon to extract it.

grain doesn't need shaking more than once. anywhere between 25%-40% colonized. if you're having trouble breaking up the clumps of grain bang the jar sharply against an inflated cycle tyre /phone book or some such. once the grain is broken up, roll and tilt the jar about to distribute the grains evenly. it is normal for the myc to lose it's brilliant white colour for a day or so. it will recover. gl

you might have found them easier to shake had you put slightly less grain in the jars ~ 2/3-3/4 full. 2/3 for grain to grain,3/4 for spore /lc inoculation.
