He's got a gun!! ...but so do you. Now what?
    #6799787 - 04/17/07 01:47 PM (17 years, 3 days ago)

You're in a public place and a spree killing is going on. You can think of a scenario such as Columbine or the recent Virginia Tech massacre.

A crazed lone gunman armed with pistols is going around shooting people. You are in the building, and obviously stuck there for the duration.

But, in your pocket is a Glock 9mm semiautomatic pistol, and there's 17 rounds in the magazine. We're gonna go with one of the next 5 options, if you have a better idea pick the closest and detail your plan in your post.

Take some time to think this through - because you would in RL

.
What would you do?

I'd try to take him out. I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing I could have stopped him from killing another 14 people.

>I passively await my shot and then shoot him

As soon as I had a clear enough shot, I'd go for it. If he was already shooting and killing people, and I popped him dead, I'd immediately hold both hands the air and let everyone know that I had a gun, only shot it to take him out, and I don't intend to to anything further with the gun. (people would definitely listen to me, as there would be a gun in my hand lol) Then I'd empty the chamber and put the gun on the ground and call the police.

Even if I was unlicensed I think I'd be able to receive a pardon for my heroic efforts.

It depends on if I was legally licensed to carry the firearm or not.

<--Lives his life in paradox. (Referring to the other companion thread to this post)

I voted for "I'd run from cover to cover till I can get a good shot and then shoot". If I was there, with a gun and could provide an immediate prevention of further death (including my own), I would do what I could to stop him. I'd try to avoid a killing shot and I doubt this type of kid would be an uber-soldier who would bravely fight on while gut shot. I definitely wouldn't be firing diversion shots or quickly unloading, that'd be just as likely to hurt someone else. It'd have to be done accurately or not at all.

I'm pretty sure you could fight that in court if you saved a bunch of people's lives.

I would assume a covered position with my back to a wall and await a decent chance to fire 2 rounds at the shooter's center body mass. From experience, I am confident I can hit a human sized chest from 20 yards.

However, being in RL danger may cause hand shake... I'm not a soldier, I'm just good at shooting targets! I would most likely wait as long as I could unless the shooter was going apeshit somewhere else, and provided enough distraction to himself to allow me a close, point blank shot. At that point, I would unload 5-6 rounds, being 9mm.

Also in Texas, if you are a licensed concealed handgun owner, you are required by law to intervene. If you do nothing, there is a chance you can be prosecuted.

Invalid poll due to lack of STAL option.

I think if you illegally carry and end a spree killing the judge would try to make you come away with it if your background is OK, whereas if you illegally carry and did nothing it might make things worse.
Certainly morally, for yourself.

Everybody can see themselves shouting "It's PvP now bitch!" and going all Miami Vice, but I think in the real world, with the stress of people being killed all around, I think most would stay put waiting for the perfect shot.

It would possibly cost extra lives waiting for him to get in the right place, but you don't know whether the guy has fiendish gun/combat experience.

All I can do is aim and hit (airguns only) so I'd probably wait for that good opportunity and then go for it.

The more lives he takes = the bigger hero you are. :yesnod:  It's better to get a perfect shot.

It also makes a BIG difference if the shooter is visible or in another room. Being visible makes it much easier to catch him reloading, which is OBVIOUSLY the best time to make your move.

Not only that, but I don't want to die. I wouldn't shoot him so I could be a hero; I'd shoot him so he couldn't kill me.
