Premature pinning
    #6798758 - 04/17/07 08:20 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hello, I have a tray of horse poo that is not really 100% colonized but is like 99%, just a little spot didn't colonize, and want to case it. I planed to case it tomorow but today I saw 2 little kntos or pins on the side of the tray. Now what should I do, fruit it like it is or case with peat/verm or should i fruit otside of the tray like a PF cake amd dunk it? And I have a tub with around 2 inches of damp perlit and holes all around, is this good?
Thanks

You can case bulk substrates at anything past about 90% colonization, or by using soaking/dunking, you can skip the casing layer completely. Pinsets and eventual harvests are better with a properly made and maintained casing layer however. It's generally best not to apply a casing layer after pinning has started. Even if the pins are only in one spot, the entire mycelial network functions as a coherent organism, so it should be pinning everywhere soon.

So now I'am dunking my substrate for like 17 hours. Should I keep it in the container or put it outside in the FC, like a cake, becouse it has pins on the sides? I added another 2 inch of perlit on bottom so now it's 4 inch. Do I have to mist it daily or how often(I dont have the hydrometer, or the thing that measure RH)?
