Is either really nessacary? I only recently moved to casing, but have had a few successful crops. I simply mix one part vermiculite to one part peat moss with about a quarter of the whole mix being crushed oyster shell. So I quess for this poll I am down for neither.

If you can present a concrete argument that I should be sterlizing or pasturizing than maybe I will try it.

By the way the people that do pasturize or sterlize, how long do you each for?

I never sterilize my casing. Shroom Wizard told me it was an unnessacry over catious procedure. Since then I haven' sterilized and haven't had any contams either. I think that by sterilizing the casing, you leave it open and suceptable to harmful contams that thrive in a sterile enviroment without any other competetors to fight besides your mycelium. Anyway, I don't sterilize and I never have problems.

I just performed my first casing a la SOS w/ no sterilization / pasteurization and minimal precautions about my work area. I've been keeping a good amount of h2o2 in the terrarium though. no contams after a few days.

I have always sterilized. I have never tried pasteurization. Whenever I try to go the non-sterilization route with my casing, the mycelium stops growing, and will never fruit. I think i'll check TMC to see what kind of contaminate this is.
But whenever I try it without sterilization, the mycelium stops growing, and no pinheads form. And yes I do buffer my casing with lime.
