For all those who have access to Milo, I think it was Dutchie who first proposed the idea of using milo as a nutrient in agar mixes and it works well.
It can also be added to liquid mediums instead of malt extract and is also working well. This saves the hassle of chasing good malt extracts that are not caramelized

Hey
Milo is a popular powdered chocolate / malt type drink we have here in NZ and Australia (and probably other countries) its like chocolate milk but kinda tastes different...man I haven't had a milo in ages! *runs to make a milo*
It comes in tins or cardboard boxes they are green with 'milo' written on them in brown.
*gets milo theme song stuck in head*

BlueMeanie won`t Horlicks work as well??
Horlicks is supposed to be a more refined malt extract and in larger amounts.
Surely that should work really well???

definately give it a try. Ive been trying all sorts of weird substrates lately - i just fruited Malaysian cubensis off corn flour

Milo is Sorghum Grain. Punch in "milo grain" in any search engine & have a look.

Milos is a sports drink that is chocolate flavoured (i think) that is mixed with milk to give you energy - if it works, id assume that horlicks or other similar products with a malt content would work well too.

very little - the equivelant of 1ml of milo per 100mls of water would suffice - hey what ever happened to your vendor idea?? Give me a pm about it

I use 1 gram of ground oats to 500ml. water for my Lc.
I also use my boiled oat water for my dishes. 500ml grain water, 10 grams agar. No malt extract.
Makes 25 dishes at 20ml. per dish.
It works so well I would want to do anything different...
Also I don't have to worry about caramelizing.
