BOSS GT-8 anyone?
    #6778344 - 04/12/07 09:17 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Anyone own this pedal or have played it? I am curious to how good it sounds, how real...as compared to the nice stombox boutique pedals.

The two guitarists that I jam with have Boss multi effects.,
One has a GT-7 the other the GT-8. I have fucked around with both.

They sound as good you can use the features on them, Of which there are many
IMO they are better than stomp boxes for many reasons.
They can sound totally natural, not digital.
With the GT-8 You can also run 2 pre-amps, delays, re-verb & chorus & set the parameters digitally to match each other, more precision than analogue equipment.
Or you can get crazy synth, pitch bending, harmonic slicer, If this is plugged into a stereo amp system it can sound like a spaceship landing.

You have to be patient with scrolling through the screens & getting the sound you want.

The one main reason people get bad sounds from digital equipment is if you push the sound level beyond the peak point 0dB it will cut off the sound and give you digital clipping, Which distort the sounds, static & harsh.

When analogue equipment is pushed the distortion created is more warm & fuzzy.

That being said there are a select few stomp boxes & other pieces of equipment that have unique sounds which may be hard to recreate on a digital multi-effect.

In my opinion all boss pedals are shitty quality, I only have boutique pedals

I hear for most people they're ok as long as you aren't recording a serious album, and even some people get away with it, but when you get serious about your sound and having stuff that will withstand playing live for a living they don't cut it anymore.

fuck, hmmmm...thanks for replying both of you.

sort of both extreme sides of the debate

i guess my guitarist and I are just gonna have to take a trip somewhere and fuck around with a bunch of pedals to see what suits us best. are there any other multi-fx pedals that are on par or better than the GT-8?

my band and i are going to be recording a demo very soon (4 months from now) and we need to figure out a better FX line up than we have now. right now we are using a shitty Zoom 1010 pedal through a solid state Marshall crap-ass head. we have a Marshall JCM 900 full tube amp but no FX to run through it (the zoom pedal through this the tube amp sounds like a donkey screaming while having it's intestines pulled out its ears).

anywho, thanks for the input you two.

it depends on your pedal-fine-tuning skills how a pedal like that will sound. with so many options it might be hard to get that sound you want. but if you know what does what you should be able to get what you want. (I've heard good things about the new ZOOM multi fx pedals with a tube in them)

not every distortion is suited for everyone though, some love the boss to death and others don't

unlike colonel said still many 'professional' guitarists use boss stompboxes I think... maybe he just wasn't able to tune it to his liking

besides that it also has a lot to do with the guitar you have and the pickups that are on it. and your personal skills ofcoarse.

The best you can do is go to a store and try some different ones out and if you find out what you like best, tell 'em it isn't what your looking for and order it for half the price over the internet:smirk:

Bullshit, I can make any pedal or guitar sound like God himself is singing
There's just so much you can do with a cheap pedal...

BTW what was that pedal you were using for your recordings? Could you please send me a link and some of your work by PM, I'm thinking of buying that one, it sounded cool.

Nevermind, I found the thread.

Sure, I'll also PM you a larger version, criticism is welcomed!

Edit: Maybe I should clarify that those solos are mostly improvised, just in case.

well it doens't sound like 'god himself is singing' hehe but it sounds good:thumbup: nice tone and overall solo progression. I'm also more in favor of improvised solo's in stead of premade ones:cool:

sure man;)

I don't have any harsh criticism though (that's a good thing eh!?), I liked your playing. When I listen again I'll try to think of constructive feedback

but now now, it's beautiful weather so I'm going to grab the acoustic and head out to the garden:sun:
