Dry casing, Should I dunk?

I have a casing that is going way to slow. All the pins are really hard. I can tell its lack of water. Should I dunk it pins and all? I don't think they will mature its that dry.

I'd wait until the flush is over at least, whether they grow or not and then dunk it. Or you could just pick the pins if they're not growing and commence with the dunk.

I'm sorry, but I hesitate to give ANY advice to someone with over 5000 posts, just I don't want to feel stupid when I give an (maybe right, maybe wrong) answer.
It's intimidating.

Don't be intimidated everyone needs a little help sometimes regardless of their post count and experience. Maybe I talk shit all day in the pub and don't know dick about growing but I've got 20,000 posts. The forum is here to help people so feel free but if I ask a question don't give me a "maybe wrong" answer just cause I don't have 5,000 posts. j/k

The pins will survive a dunking - just don't keep them submerged for much longer than 24 hours. This would be especially true if you were simultaneously cold shocking them.

You get aborts form standing water and stale air. Dunking would consist of a lot more standing water, submerged actually, than over misting and would cut out FAE all together. They may tolerate it I can't say that I've tried but this does not sound like a good idea. You shouldn't tamper with a fruiting substrate during the middle of a flush.

One should assume it's cubes unless specified otherwise and you DON'T cold shock cubes.
I'm wondering why the casing layer is dried out. You should be misting several times per day to keep it nice and moist. You can also pour water right from a bottle between the pins to super-hydrate the casing. If the substrate is also dry, as I suspect, you can inject water directly into it with a syringe, and/or pour water around the edges of the tray, filling it up. Pour off the excess a few hours later. I have never had this issue before. But these are my first coir casings and I think when I pasteurized the coir I really dried things out. Next time I will for sure use a oven bag.
My casings are in these containers but once the block got fully colonized I picked the substrate up with the tinfoil under it and lifted them out and set them on a shelf in my FC. I think I'm going to crank up my cool-mist to the highest mist level for the night and see if that helps. If it don't I'm going to maybe partially submerged it.
I'm assuming that dunking the pins and all is a bad idea huh?

I've dunked substrates with pins lots of times. Never had one abort yet. Just increase air exchange afterwards, so the pins don't stay wet once they come out of the dunk. RR

Dunk bulk substrates for 4 to 6 hours. If still dry, wait a couple of days and repeat. You should be able to judge moisture content by the weight of the tray. RR

I agree with RR, I have dunked my casings whole and have added water to the casing straight from the bottle.
As he said, you need to make sure that the air exchanges are increased to evaporate the excess water though.
My casings have always done well in the past. never any aborts.

Yeah, your pins won't abort after a dunk if you give it good air afterwards. Your aborts will stay aborted for the most part tho. I've only been dunking a couple hours after my flushes, but I keep my substrate and casing pretty hydrated. But with RR's comment, I might have to try 4-6 hours and look for any differences:)
