A new idea for a festival, what do you all think of it?

I have a new idea that i would like to pitch to yall,
Lots of us love going out to festivals, ones where you camp, ones where you rent hotels etc....... but when you go to festivals where you are staying at a hotel, the drive to the festival grounds in the morning is usually a pain in the ass......
But what if there was a festival held right in the heart of a small town? Old vacant lots and buildings turned into stages and performing grounds.
Affordable hotels under 40/night and camping available as well!
Basically a complete invasion of a town of only 2000 people
what do you think?

It'd be cool, but killer to organize. And permission would probably be hard to get haha.

I think it would be quite unlikely that locals would let you use their small town for a festival. Also being in the open is part of the fun of these festivals.

you seee..... i would pick a decently poor town, starving for busines and commerce. the financial incentives would really help smooth over the fact that a whole bunch of hippies would be taking the town over for a weekend

This sounds like one of the hells angles runs. Where they would find a nice camping area in a small town, and fill it full of entire chapters of the gang.
Still an alright idea, but you would need to make sure the city or town could handle a large influx of people like that.
Who's going to play your fest'?

personally i would like to have an electronic music festival, but that would be a hard sell.....
Probably more of a jam oriented fest with djs and electronic music on the side.

Papino D'Augustino lives in Benicia, Hughy Lewis and the Blues live in Benicia
I could put together alot of talent from the Bay Area if we REALLY wanted to put on A GOOD show.

Dude, even better, find an abandoned ghost town. Like this place - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centralia%2C_Pennsylvania - which is where they filmed Silent Hill. It'd be a crazy ass place to party.

actually i spent quite a bit of time looking into old ghost towns, problem is most of the ones in the west, are too small or owned by the government like everything else
I also tried to use that town that got famous when it was sold on e-bay up in northern california, they offered to rent it to me, but it was far too hilly

I'm originaly from a small town. 4000 people and two red lights. Every year they have a folk-life festival where there's a bunch of country shit. Arts crafts music and a few other things.
It's pretty boring, but I'm sure there's gotta be one somewhere that has a half-way decent themed one. Just find a town somewhere that has a laid back perspective and get a few booths and slowly take over, each year having more and more booths.
