Sterilizing new syringe neccesary?
    #6779860 - 04/12/07 06:09 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I have a packaged syringe I'd like to use for LC. All the teks seem to suggest that a new syringe needs to be sterilized but this doesn't make sense to me. Aren't medical syringes required to be sterile in the first place?

you sterilize the needle, before you use it, and then every couple of innocs thereafter. Take a paper towel, soak it in alcohol, then take an alcohol lamp or butane lighter and heat the needle until it glows red. Stick it in the paper towel and leave it wrapped up until you are ready to use it. Innoc, then put it right back in the paper towel. Just one more step to make sure you stay clean.

If it came new in a sterile wrapper it doesn't need to be sterilized.
