Pouring AGAR: A Nightmare!

Hello ladies and gents,
Last night i PCed 500ml of MEA. Let the PC cool for about 15 minutes, then removed the flask to my UNDERSIZED GB.
The next issue came when i opened my pre sterilized plastic petri dishes. flimsy, loose, and VERY difficult to manage with BIG ribber gloves (the G in GB).
Keeping things NEAT and CLEAN, which is very important i assume, was impossible. Having only a birds eye view i could not tell when the pour was right, spilled, attempted to bag petris, spilled.... it was just a nightmare.
thing of it is, the recipe was good, consistency was perfect... i just need to get the procedure down...
it is a given that i am not going to use that underdeveloped GB in my future agar attempts, so the question becomes, would it be possible to pour in a VERY clean bathroom? all surfaces sterilized, dust shields, CONSTANT alcohol wiping?
Parafilm: to be used UNDER lid or over lid ideally?
Thanks all.

First of all, allow the PC to cool for about an hour and a half so that you can handle the bottle of agar with bare(latex gloves) hands without burning yourself.
Get rid of the rubber gloves and simply cut holes in your glovebox big enough to stick your arms through and be snug around your upper wrists. Wear latex gloves. This will give you freedom of movement, and the much cooler agar will prevent condensation on your petri dishes as well as the sides of your glovebox.
Use a whiskey or other liquor bottle to prepare the agar as it's easy to pour from. The longer the neck the better.
Divide your sleeve of 20 dishes into two stacks of ten. On the first pour, lift the top nine dishes and all ten lids with your left hand and pour the bottom dish with your right, assuming you're right handed. Next, lift the top eight dishes and nine lids and pour the second dish, etc., until the stack is poured, and then pour the second stack. Leave them in two stacks of ten until solidified. When you pull your hands out of the holes, have something ready to stuff them with to prevent drafts, or cover with paper taped into place, etc.
When the dishes solidify, place back into the plastic sleeve. RR

I recently had my first experience pouring Agar in Petri's. I also found the Glovebox to be a bit tricky to work in.
My biggest problem was that the Glovebox was not completely flat on the bottom and that I had a tendency of overfilling the petri's.
I'm sure with practice things will get much easier.
I am using Latex Gloves with Tyvek Sleeves and Two Arm Holes cut out of a clear 66Qt. Rubbermaid Revelations as recommended by RogerRabbit and Monstermitch.
I have some good links to agar teks and posts in my journal (see my sig).
I am using 2" Parafilm and I found with the stackable Petri's I'm using it has a tendency to tear under to lip of the Petri cover. Now, I just cut off a 3 square section (lines marked on Parafilm) and the fold it in half and stretch the Parafilm as I wrap it around the Sides of the Dish. I'm not sure if this will impede FAE though. Anyone?
I'm a complete tyro so it's best to see what others have to say.
Good luck!

Not to hijack this thread but since this is related...
For some reason I found it difficult to lift the entire stack of petris to pour the most bottom dish.
I also covered the stack of 10 dishes with the plastic sleeve they came in immediately after they were all poured until cooled.
Should I wait for them to cool in the glovebox first as RR suggests and then cover with the plastic sleeve?
I just fold up the tyvek sleeve when I pull my arms out of the GB and stuff it back in the hole rather than covering with paper or whatever.
-Thanks

Lifting the stack takes a bit of practice. I show good hand position on my upcoming dvd, because I have a whole section devoted to agar work. I'm burning the first few DVD's now to test everything out, so won't be too much longer. RR

I'll announce here when they're ready, and become a sponsor. It's a two DVD set, and I'm planning on $39 retail price to make them affordable to everyone. RR

follow what RR told you to do...
and build a little larger "still air box/glove box" if you can afford one.
here is mine...
