attempt at an indoor environment
    #6777798 - 04/12/07 01:45 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Im trying my best for an indoor environment with a 30 gallon tank. I'd like to try and case the entire bottom of the tank and provide all the basic necessities for life. Was thinking of laying down dirt and making it like a terrarium now that i got about a months wait and kinda let things sit ready. May i please get some advise from fellow shroomers whose had success with such a set-up?

You mean...water?

I'm sorry dude, I just don't see what you're really after here. You said you want to provide the necessities, but you're gonna use 'dirt'?

I wish you would post some more of your ideas.

Want to do the tub easy way?

Get some lil box containers, around 2 inches deep, that will fit the tub - i'd take measurements before going to the store. Two or three should do.

Fill the bottom of your tub (like 1-2 inches) with water. Check how high the water comes, and mark the level on every side with a dot or a line or whatever. Now go get a drill. Drill some lil holes a lil over the lines you just drew. I usually drill some to the upper portion of the box too - because CO2 goes up.

Hook up an air pump to an airstone, and throw the stone to the bottom. Put power on. You may have to figure out how to make your pump silent - i let it hang.

Then, case your mycelium from your jars to the containers you bought. Place into the tub.

Then just wait and you should have shrooms in a few weeks.
The airpump isn't for the water to oxygenize, it's for the air to change.

Why this is the best way in my opinion?

a) The water + closedness of the box keeps humidity near 100% at all times. Never 100% though, so it's safe.

b) Air exchange is automated + humidity is automated -> Easy.

c) Cheap, no-extra-hassle-way.

I hope you will have terrific results. I did - and do even now.

You don't case the bottom, and dirt is what gets under your fingernails when you work outside.

You'll need to look at the top of the page in the FAQ and plan what you want to do, OR read back fifty to one hundred pages of posts in this forum, and you'll learn everything you need to do to have a successful grow. Until you learn the very basic first steps, we can't help you.

Well, wouldn't it be ideal to use 3 casing layers? why wouldn't dirt work as a bottom layer? Ive actually done it before and have has sucess and its that way it is in nature. But what Im trying to do is make almost like a terrarium, cept insead of plants, mushrooms. See what im saying. Was wanting to get air-pumps, lights, timers. The whole idea about the dirt was to help with humidity and make it more of a natural self-contained enviorment. since the bottom will have no space for Perlite, i was thinking of hanging some cups or something on the inside and putting an airstones in it. Maybe buy a mist maker (which ive been wanting for awhile now). Use trashbags to help hold in the enviornment. Hope this helps explaine better what im trying to do.

I have saw alot of people talking about air stones and stuff, maybe the way to go but hell with making it "natural" throw some perlite in the bottom and put the casing in there. Spray and fan. Does this sound wrong to others?
