Death to All Americans
    #6776566 - 04/11/07 07:03 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I am going to destroy my All American Pressure Cooker. I've had nothing but problems since I've gotten the damned thing. My lid gets stuck every time I pressure cook, and I have to use a screwdriver to pry that thing apart. I'm not letting it sit any longer than the directions say. I take the metal thingy off as soon as the pressure indicator reads zero. Am I forgetting some obvious step? Does anyone else have this problem?

As far as I know there is no pressure valve on the AAs. You take off the weight whenever the pressure drops to zero, and let it cool. According to the instructions, the top should twist off with no problem...but it's quite a problem.

hmmm. it could be that it's warped. does it go on without any problems, are any little bit of drag. i know that heat expands the metals more than you'd think. i had that problem with an older maid of honor PC. it'd go on with no problems, and unless it was absolutley cold again, it wouldn't move.

I doesn't appear to be warped. It goes on with no problems, but hell, it might be. Maybe I should have gotten a cheapy instead of a 200$ one. eh.

Just like a new car, there is a break in period.
Wipe a slight amount of Vaseline on the seal area.
Line up the lid & pot notch, each use.
Don't tighten the lid handles down so tight.
Just snug, will do it
.
Don't use a screw driver to pry it open.

I have one 50+ years old.
It's as good as the day it was new.

Mine does not use up hardly any water unless i redline it and it pops the relief valve:lol:
I found it on e-bay for $40
It is a Chicago Foundry or a Co-Op made in the early 40`s
It seals like a dream:yesnod:

Rare old bird & a good one at that.
I mistook it for a National.
As, in the late 40's, they had a model that looks like that.

And you dont use vaseline. Before you bash a product that's the best in the buisiness, it's a good idea to read the instruction manual.

Basic millet or birdseed recipe for 1 pint jar:

- 100g(3.5 oz ~ 140 ml) birdseed
- 70g(2.8 oz = 70 ml) water
- knife tip full of gypsu  m

Then I would give that a go.
