Whilst down near the river, SWIM, who has taken an interest in mycology and gophers, spotted the rare three striped Australian gopher. Upon merrily chasing the gopher for a photo opp., the gopher ran under this bush. SWIM thought SWIM had the gopher trapped, and as SWIM lifted the gophers hiding place, SWIM noticed a peculiar stench. SWIM laughed and pointed his finger at the gopher for living under the nasty stinking plant. SWIM then accidentily let go of the branch, crushing and killing the rare three striped Australian gopher.
What any of this has to do with this forum is this. Swim realized that he was dreaming, and all the time searching for smurf village, not the gopher. SWIM also realized that many knowledgable people dwell amongst this forum and decided it would be a good place to tell of his last myco hunt.
What in the hell is this growing everywhere SWIM looks? Not just at the river, but literaly EVERYWHERE. It just doesn't look nor smell right. SWIM also remembers the gopher stuffing a little into an incense burner and sure enough, damned if it didn't have a weakly intoxicating magical smell to it. SWIM doesn't use, but is very beyond belief that the town has turned into some kind of Jamaica overnight. Can someone help this confused sole with an explanation and ID.

Yeah, be a pioneer. Hope you don't get sick. If your really curious, check out a plant identification guide from your local library... tho this same book isn't going to tell you if you can catch a buzz from it (probably)

Trees that resemble that picture quite a bit grow all over the place in my home town. They spread like weeds and stink to high heavens when cut or chopped down, or looked at wrong. Not sure if its the same thing, and I don't even know what they are, but I think I have seen them. (Could it be tree of heaven?)

Yup. This is everywhere. Fields, Neo, endless fields....
Upon further testing, swim took some and puffed. Swim stopped using M for a long time so any tolerance to it is gone. Swim said that the smoke tasted and smeeled identical to M. Swim also said that there was a slight M like high associated with its use, but after a few days Swim stopped feeling most effects unless a bunch was smoked. Swim also tried oral doses. Swim noticed that the first and second oral dose, effects were there. As the dose doubled and tripled, Swim doesn't know if anything happened because he fell sound asleep without meaning to each time.
Hmmmmm, interesting plant here, whatever it is. Sounds like there's definitely something to it from Swim's results. More testing is in order. Could one imagine what a little 'discovery' like this would do? If it is active, and people start using it (in theory), theres nothing short of bulldozing and paving over the e. coast to stop it. Nothing, Swim shouts, wringing hands and grinning madly. Mwuahahahaha.... Then again, swim might just end up discovering that the plant is a common non active ditchweed and any and all effects were in his mind...
Swim just happens to live near an area where good 'ol G. Wshngton grew up, and where he and a few other fellas grew hemp like mad. Swim does not believe there's any connection here, but something of interest...maybe it leached into the soil?

I'm not a botanist but it does look like Tree of Heaven to me. It is a pest alien plant, psychoactive effects might be best found on Chinese traditional medicine sites as it originated in China.

See if that page matches what you've got.

I was just going to say... That plant looks like a relative of the Sumac family of trees, which is most likely what everyone is referring to growing in their hometown like weeds. Upon visiting the link for "Tree Of Heaven" I was beaten to the punch of saying Sumac, as the Tree of Heaven is a member of the Sumac family.
