Help! - Alacabenzi pinning trouble w/PICS
    #6770237 - 04/10/07 01:28 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I've read every post I can find on fruiting, overlay, etc. and I think I need the community's opinion. It's day 8 in the FC and what has been a very successful first try looks to be stalled a bit.

I used the tek here - http://www.shroomery.org/8432/From-syringe-to-print-using-rye

which is rye cased with 1 part verm to 2 parts coir. You can see some chuncks in the pic from the ready mix bed-a-beast :P I later found a bigger pet store with the pure coir bricks.

Anyway, humidity is kept at 90% with a cool mist running 24/7 and an ultrasonic that comes on every 2 hours. temp has ranged from 65 to 80 but is generally around 72F.

Have a look at the pics and tell me if I need to deep scratch, dunk, or just wait another couple of days.

Thanks!

Here are 4 different pans, one of which has a bag of rye that was just cased on top about 4 days after the others:

Yeah that looks like overlay.
Coir is better suited for a substrate than a casing material.
Try 50/50 peat and verm next time.
You could try boosting humidity up to 99% and fruit it like an uncased tray.

I think you just need to wait a few days. Give it more fresh air. You don't wanna try and add a casing layer at this point. it's not overlayed too bad. Mine looked similar, and I still got a big yield.

It will fruit. Be patient, pass the time however you can w/ out thinking about it.

with a 2:1 ratio coir to verm i would also guess overlay.

so I'm guessing that the root of my problem here was letting the pans incubate too long after 'casing' with coir? I missed that little tidbit somehow as the danger was not mentioned in the tek I used (link in first post).

damn

Just wait it out. Took my coir trays ~11 days to pin.

Looks OK-although a tad on the dry side. I would gently mist 3-4times a day and make sure you are getting enough fresh air. Looks good!

The fact that it shrank so much before first flush tells you it's too dry. It's also not fully colonized, so should not have even been exposed to fruiting conditions. Coir is a substrate. If you were going to use it for a 'casing', it would be two parts verm, to one part coir. There's a lot of bogus teks in the archives.

Dunk it for twelve hours or so. It will probably fruit eventually. It's not overlayed.

Its just matted down myc. Overlay is something we don't really see a lot. I mean getting overlay takes more effort than getting fruits. Hydrate and it can take 20 days to see pins.

PINS ON TWO TRAYS HOORAY!

They're so tiny I, they barely show up in photos so I'll wait a bit

Thanks for the info guys... little contradictory, lol but I guess I'll just run the humidity up, wait a few days and dunk a couple of the trays if I don't see anything at the end of the week.

Going out to look for a supply of horse manure today... luckily I'm surrounded by horses.
