Question about a potential yield
    #6768202 - 04/09/07 11:54 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Lemme start by saying ive never posted but ive been reading the forums for over a year, Ive had a few experiments ^ ^ but im gettn ready to start something larger than ive done before I got a question about potential yield... Im going to be using (the jars ill be knocking up)16 one half pint jars. over an area thats going to be 2 square yards... I figure the layer might be a little thin but should be ok... ill be using 1/2 perlite 1/2 vermiculite for a base layer and all verm for a top layer.... Ill be using a b+ strain (ive had good luck with it so im stickn with it for now)

Im not sure how correct i am on the terminology ... like i said ive been reading for a while.. but only when i had a problem (such as green mold etc).

Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of a potential yield i might be able to get... dry... or fresh.. doesnt matter.... thank you

Probably little to no yield at all. Pf cakes already have enough verm in them, so you don't spawn them to more, since vermiculite has no nutrients or food for the mycelium. If you want to do a bulk grow, spawn your 16 jars to three or four times that amount of horse manure, or ten times that amount of straw. You don't use a bottom layer. If you choose to case the bulk substrate, peat/verm works well, but not verm by itself.

Perlite is for humidifying a terrarium, not for mixing your spawn into. Good luck.

Why two square yards? That's way too big for 4 quarts.

16 half pint jars would be about 3 quarts of substrate or spawn, depending on what you use it for. If you're just casing the cakes, that would be enough for a 7" x 8" substrate, 3" deep.

If you spawned it to straw or poo at a 1:5 ratio, you would have enough substrate for just under 2.5 square feet at 3" deep.

Ditto on the casing method. Even for a first grow I would recommend doing the 50/50 casing tek, or something similar.
