Would like to become a vendor - require your input!

Hello everybody,
I am not 100% sure this is the best forum to be posting my question. But here it goes:
I would like to become a vendor here at the Shroomery.
Some of the items I would like to supply this wonderful community with would be:
Pasteurized (earthy-smelling) horse poo
50/50 mixes
Dry or pasteurized straw
Dry or pasteurized sawdust
Filter Patch Bags
Various other mycological items
Before making the necessary moves to make such work a go, I would like to have some community input. How many of you would actually use me. I would keep you posted via personal e-mail letting you know an estimate of when I can complete processing of the orders and follow through with the date that it is shipped out via courier/tracked packaging so that you KNOW it is coming. Please answer via the polls below. This will help me gauge what kind of market there may be available to me.
If there is some sort of suggestion or advice you would like to leave in this thread about previous vendors or some sort of improvement that would make YOU a happier customer, please do not hesitate to leave it keep me informed.

It's not a bad idea if you've got a method of pasteurizing MASS quantities of substrates at the same time as to not get extremely backed up.

There is a method to this madness!
I have added a second part to this poll. Prices will be competitive with the other vendors. Method of payment is a minor issue at this stage, but I will address it in the below poll as well as average ordering weight.

A couple of tips. Straw has a very short life expectancy after hydration and pasteurization. By the time somebody could get it shipped, it would be too late to complete colonization before contamination set in. Straw would need to be shipped dry, but at five to eight dollars per 70 pound bale in most areas, it would be hard to justify shipping, which would cost that much for a pound or two.
Sawdust needs to be supplemented with bran to be of much use as a growing medium, thus needs to be sterilized, not pasteurized. If you don't supplement sawdust, performance is poor at best.
I'd get rid of the poll and just ask your questions. Personally, I think all the polls around the forum are lame, but that's just me. Others disagree. RR

Most of the new hands; Order hydrated (so-called) "pasteurized" h/poo in filter patch bags. Which, they sometimes store for considerable lengths of time. (before use)
The reality is, if it's just pasteurized, it cannot be stored at room temperatures, for considerable lengths of time. Because after pasteurization, bacterial & microbial life that pasteurization will not & cannot kill, will sooner than later become active, inside the bag.
Common knowledge is, if you give bacteria/microbes nutrients (h/poo), moisture (hydrated h/poo)& air (filter patch on a spawn bag) at normal room temperatures, they will GROW.
So, the bags must be sterilized. Otherwise, they cannot be stored @ room temps. Without becoming biologically active.
If you were to sell such a product. I would hope you have a LARGE autoclave. Or, a bank of multiple AA 941's, on steel gas burners.
Otherwise, if the price is right. and, the product is good. You will not be able to keep up with demand. Which leads to long wait & delivery times.
Since, orders are PRE-PAID, in advance. Most customers will become dissatisfied, grumpy & bitchy. If they have to wait more than 10/14 days, to receive their order.
You might want to bear that in mind.
EDIT TO ADD: If you are not capable of having 10 tons of well weathered dry h/poo.
On hand, at all times, including WINTER MONTHS.
You will end up having problems. You would be surprised how many 50/75/100 lb orders. You will get.

What he said.
I'd also like to add that a good remedy to this would be to have an update of how long the delay is going to be for product to be shipped updated on a daily basis. And put this on the home page so people can know what to expect before placing an order. This would probably give you an advantage and keep your rep up.

Of course, the number one tip would be to stick around, learn mycology, get a few grows under your belt and become known in the community for at least a year or two before even attempting something like this. Good luck. RR

I can understand how you may perceive me as a rookie RR. I am not entirely new to mycology. I have been lurking on these boards since they had the old school orange colours way back in the day.
I am familiar with PF, straw, manure, casings, g2g transfers, lc, etc. Up to now, I am not familiar working with sawdust for those woodlovers. If a few grows and postings on this site will help you perceive something different about where you may think my experience lacks, then I shall post a few grows in the Grow Log forum. During the next few months I will be working with shiitake and oyster. Keep your eyes open for any of my new threads in that forum. They will be very descriptive and detailed.
I know where you are coming from when you say good luck. I say the same thing to someone who leaves all the studying to the last night before their major exam. I say good luck to the new guy at the table who doesn't quite yet know how much fun he's going to have losing all his chips to us. I say good luck to someone who lacks experience and wants to play bingo and try to reach for the sky.
Good luck on your dvd, I will most likely want a copy!

you would have to have some kind of edge.. killer prices, pre-sterilized media, etc.

shipping sucks for most of the bulk items and usually they are easy enough to get locally. anything hydrated is a no go for lifespan and shipping weight increase. i would suggest you find a nice gimmic cause theres plenty of suppliers for most stuff out there. Maybe specialize in gormet substrates etc

As far as bulk substrate goes, the Buffalo Man with the classified ad. At the top of the vendors forum. Has the best dry product price around. I can see a few h/poo sellers cringing over his prices.
