First time growing, questions on how they look.

Well, my friend and I had talked a lot about growing shrooms, so he bought me a kit for Christmas. Now, I had to move in February and therefore I was against growing them as soon as they got to me (I also hadn't ordered any spores yet). So I ended up leaving the 12 jars I had in the container they came in until about two or three weeks ago when I finally ordered some B+ Spores.

Of course this was STUPID, as before I even attempted to grow anything half of my jars were obviously contaminated(Having been left in a closet for two+ months). So I ended up starting with only eight jars.

I read up a little and decided that I was too impatient(stupid) to construct a glove box or even go as far as to simply clean the room(small walk in closet) in which I was to inoculate my remaining jars. What I did do was buy a face mask, gloves(pretty purple ones!) and some aerosol air spray. I sprayed the room down, left it for 10 minutes, then went in with a lighter, my syringe, naked, with purple gloves, and a face mask on.

Thus I proceeded to inoculate my jars and left the room and waited a few days.

Enter I a few days later to find out that half of my already small jar count had become contaminated by nasty green mold. Thus I was down to 4 jars, which had no contamination however also had no pretty fluffy white spots yet.

So now I'm here, a week or so later, down to only three jars, which by my eyes seem to be progressing nicely. So today I decided to take pictures and ask all of you as to how they look.

Keep an eye on the jars from the first and last pics, hopfully thats your dry verm layer on top, and not, some trich starting to fruit.

Once their about 70-80% colonized, you can flip them over and iit will help speed up things.

Your new but It seems like you have some graspe at what your doing- If you have (if not get one) a PC you should jump right to grains and take parts of your good jars and inoculate your grains with that. You can also make a LC and drop some of that godo myc on agar. Just some other ways you can continue your grow.

Don't worry about the glove box thing, its not required for cubensis to grow at all. I am more into speed and accuracy- with the right jar prep and LC/PDA/G2G you could inoculate in a bread factory dumpster and have no worries.

I am surprised you did not end up with your pretty purple nitrite gloves melted to the rest of your badly charred body

Here this pic is so old its back when I was still using foil and an alcohol lamp but it still illustrates how cheap you can go and still achieve the still air you need for clean inoculations



If You like having skin on your arms and hands I suggest using nothing but bleach solution to clean inside of it,I wont even have aerosol Lysol or out anywhere near my grows,its just newb overkill and I actually get 100% less contamination with nothing but bleach than when I figured everything could use a squirt of oust

Yes, but I don't like my flesh burnt.

It's quite painful.

The only thing I use Oust for is 30 minutes prior to spawning to help "clear the air".

Lucky enough my glove box is glass so I was able to escape the great glovebox fire of '06 with my facial hair and eyebrows intact.....thats allot more than I can say for my hands or arms :hotidea:
