Any good suggestions for heating a martha?
    #6758111 - 04/07/07 02:43 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I have a martha in a cool place that maintains a temp of 60 degrees F.
I need to figure out a way to get the temps in the martha up to fruiting temps.
Any safe ideas?

thanks!

If you put floros close enough I'm sure it will help to heat it up?

And there it is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

me neither, my old f/c in the same location kept at 70 tops and fruited beautifully.
I have a flour light and a hanging incandescent light, but am still in the mid 60s tops.
my cased GC's are taking forever to fruit and I believe that temps may be the culprit. I would go back to the old f/c but I have way too much to fit in there now.
which is why I am asking. I can't heat the room, because it is too big. I can't move the Martha because it would breach security. So here I am with the dilemma.
what to do?

hi,

i heard of people using LED rope lighting, you can get 18' or so, it is flexible and gives off heat.  you could wrap it around your shelving and it would generate heat within the martha and would provide light for lower levels.

something like this:

thanks for the idea, i thought i read about that somewhere a while ago.
I am tempted to try it.
I am going to wally mart later and will look around for some ideas.

I guess I should have thought about this problem before investing in my martha.

lesson learned....

If you want faster growth...

Heat the room.

NOT the Martha

u could look into a couple of heating mats like the kind people use to start small seedlings and hang them on the outside of the martha...either that or i would look into sealing off part of the room it is in and getting some sort of (super) safe space heater...

Then it's nothing at all or find another room. If you heat a fruiting chamber, your humidity will be lost in order to form condensation on the walls which will run down to the floor, making a mess. Either heat the area around the greenhouse, or fruit it cold. A space heater nearby should help.

If it's in a basement.
Use 2X4 studs to box it in.
Use rigid foam insulation 2X4 or 4X8 ft sheets to panel the frame.
(2 or 3 inch thick rigid foam insulation sheets @ $6 each)

Stuff like this.
Shop Lowes or HomeDepot for it.

Space heaters in the room perhaps,I saw a very interesting heater the other day at the hardware store that looked like a fan but had a heating element behind it to blow warm air.

You heat the room not your fruiting chamber

how about an electric blanket hung around the g/h on the outside.
would that be more reasonable?
I could retrofit it with a thermostadt and place that into the g/h.
