Endless contamination

It seems as though I cannot make a casing anymore without contaming. My sterile procedure is good and mold is not visible untill I put my casing on and wait for colonization. Every time I case my bulk sub I get a contam. What gives here? How do I stop the contams? Any help here?

I used to do peat/verm casings and they did well untill second or 3rd flush then contamed but this was when I was just crumbling pf cakes and casing them. I've tried coir sub with peat verm casing but got contamination. I have a monotub going right now with coir cased with mgmc casing I looked today and I have cobweb. that is my history of casings.

cobweb? Increase the air exchange. Do you have your one inch holes stuffed with poly fill with medium tightness? Also i noticed thats not really enough for air exchange. A cieling fan on medium in the same room as the monotub will do the trick, or a box fan on low in the room.

you may have to visqueen off the grow area. You only have problems during the case run so you should section off a small corner of a room and clean the hell out of that area.

I've found that on every instance where trich shows up during casing run, it was in the spawn prior to casing. Sometimes the mushroom mycelium 'over runs' it and the trichoderma is hidden, but still there. Once it gets a bit of air during spawning, it comes to life with a vengeance.
It's important NOT to sterilize bulk subs like coir. You didn't state your methods, but sterilizing substrates or casing material is a recipe for disaster because the first spore to land on a sterile medium takes off and grows.
You need to pH balance your substrates and casing to an initial pH of 8 to 8.5 because trichoderma grows best in a pH of 4 to 6, which is exactly what coir and peat moss are.
Cobweb is easy to kill with three sprayings 12 hours apart of 3% peroxide, so it's not really a problem. Air exchange is the key to preventing both trich and cobweb after first flush, but prior to first flush it requires contaminant free spawn or pf cakes and a proper pH. RR

I didn't know h202 would kill cobweb. I just put my second application on my infected monotub mgmc casing. It looks like it's doing the trick. The cobweb started to bubble up and dissapeared immediately.
as for the PH, how do I adjust it? I never learned about PH.

If you're using the same bins or trays over and over again that have had contaminated substrates in them, the trays or bins are probably contaminated and need to be pasteurized or sterilized. Keep that in mind too.

Use the 'search posts' function at the top of the page. In the search box type in 'hydrated lime' and in the username box, type in RogerRabbit. You'll find hundreds of posts where I describe how to balance pH. You could also use Agar's name in the username box. RR

cool, I actually have lime and used it in the past but I quit using it because I wasn't sure if it helped or not. I wasn't sure because I have heard you want the powder type of lime but I have lime that is in very small pellets. Will the pellet type work?

Nope.
You want limestone flour, calcium carbonate, oyster shell flour, or hydrated lime. RR

Do you have a crawlspace under your house? Do you have a basement? Is it dry?
I found out my mold problem stemmed from the dirt-floor crawlspace under my house which was damp and growing mold, right on the dirt!
So I put down a 4mm polyethylene vapour barrier to keep the moisture down and cover the mold. I need to increase the grade of the soil around my house to keep the water away and I should have sprayed bleach everywhere to kill off the mold first, but spending a lond period of time in a dark two foot tall crawlspace taking in lungfulls of bleach and mold is not exactly healthy.
Point being, there's probably a source of the mold somewhere unless, like Roger said, it's in the spawn.

Sorry for my bad post. I thought your projects had contaminated pre colonization.
Are you pasteurizing your casing mixture? I'd certainly suggest it when using a monotub or whatever it's called.
