lions mane troubles
    #6755646 - 04/06/07 09:06 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

so i threw out my humidity tent which came with my lions mane kit(it was just a big plastic bag and some wooden kabob skewers) when i got my greenhouse, and my humidifier shit on me so now i dont know what to do because i can only keep the greenhouse at 61% rh and i am broke for another week what should i do?
i knw 61% is too low but where do i need to keep the bag at in terms of humidity?

Um....is it fruiting yet? The bag doesn't need humidity during colonization. In addition, I've fruited lion's mane in my living room at ambient humidity, which is actually kind of high because I live in a moist climate, but 61% for a week won't hurt lion's mane, even if it is fruiting Besides, you can throw some damp paper towels or perlite in the area around it if you need to raise humidity. I've also hung damp bath towels in my mini greenhouse when I needed a boost during hot weather.

Don't modify coolmists or they crap out in a short time.

well, i got it in the mail and it honestly looked like it wasn't 100% colonized but they said to fruit it as soon as i got it, so i cut some holes(which i think were way too big) and put it in my greenhouse where it has been at 95-100+ for 2 weeks and still no primordia, do you have any pics of lions mane primordia? i honestly dont know what i am looking for, but i am pretty sure ill know when it happens. so you think 60% humidity will be okay or do i need higher to start pinning?

also i didnt really mod it i had 2 humidifiers in the bottom of my gh and one was on all the time and the other was on a timer 1hour on one hour off

They don't 'look' fully colonized even when ready to harvest.

so my other humidifier died and my bag is all yellow around the holes the rest looks fine though, should i cover the holes with something (i was thinking some press and seal wrap), and make smaller ones closer to the top?

i finally got stuff to make another humidity tent for it. but it had been at about 47% humidity for about 3 days and thats when it started to look all yellow and dried up.

can i just take it out and put it in a tub with some perlite?

Give it a dunk, and yea, you can put it in a tub with perlite, but allow plenty of air exchange once it starts to fruit.

okay so i dunked it and put it in a tub with perlite, i think i see what looks like primordia in a couple spots but it has turned yellow and stopped growing, most of the myc on the block has turned yellow, i took the lid of the tub completely off because i think i heard you say something about doing them in open air....should i leave the lid off and just mist it 2-3 times a day? and should i pick off the aborted fungi or will it be okay if i leave it on (prolly a dumb question)?

I dunno man. That thing should have flushed twice or more and been finished by now. All my cultures I had going when you started this thread have long since fruited and been discarded. Perhaps it was a bum culture.

Hey RR,
That comment about fruiting bags that don't quite look fully colonized but are ready, does that apply to others like oysters and such, too?

Regards,
FriendlyNeighbor

No, oysters will turn the bag completely white by full colonization.

Say Rogerrabbit, when you say give it a dunk, so you mean soak it in water and put it in the fridge for 24 hours like usual or is there another procedure. I have some half-pint jars with sawdust and BRF that are almost ready. I've also read that the initiation temp. should be 50-60 degrees. Is this that important? I notice you said you fruited in your living room and 50-60 degrees for a living room is a bit chilly.
