ok heres a method I use that works great and the jarrs are like new again.... pressure cook them first then inject bleach into the jars before dumping them dump I tried using bleach water to clean out the rest of the way but they smelled horrible still so heres what I did.... I learned in homebrewing the best way to clean glass was with caustic soda "LYE" "drain cleaner" so I filled jars with cold water and dumped in some lye and let sit for about 10 minutes rinsed and used a stiff bristled bottle brush Bammm like new again also I placed caps in lye water and rinsed the thing is theres tiny pores in glass even and lye will get right in and clean it out

If you boil them for an hour, you can simply dump the contents and wash with soap and water. I've been doing that for over 20 years. RR

Believe it or not, I put my contaminated grain jars in the microwave for 2 minutes prior to dumping them. I've been doing that for a while now. I don't have arching problems with the metallic canning lids if you can buy that.
