this basic sterilization concept??
    #6754256 - 04/06/07 01:28 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

yeah, i cant find my presuure cooker and it has been given up for lost. But anyways, i saw something similiar to this using water, karo and microwave and microwave safte dishes, ect. All your supposed to do is poke burn some holes in the lid, place some suran wrap over the container and under the lid., maybe stuff the holes with polyfill and microwave it a couple of times. I know there has been sucess and failure with microwaves, but will this basic concept work? i plan on using WBS. PS! where can i find a pressure cooker LOCALY?

Go to a goodwill, they often have PC's. If not, try another thrift store, and if not, then just go buy a small one for ~30-50 dollars.

I highly doubt microwaving grains is a good idea, let alone will it work.

The microwave, karo and seran wrap was for liquid culture. I don't see it working with grains.

I think it COULD work...I've seen microwaving work on WBS jars with plastic lids and polyfill filters, but I've seen it fail more. Way more.

My advice would be to get a PC and save yourself a ton of time and heartbreak.

They do, but not ALL of them...Go to the BIG one and look by the pans.

They also may be considered a "seasonal item" and wally world may have quit stocking them until pressure cooker season starts.

Thrift stores are a damn good idea, too.
