Humidifier blowing too hard?
    #6753718 - 04/06/07 10:23 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I recently had a problemn with my grow closet. I have two humidifiers sitting atop my grow area that were releasing water around the seams(Vicks). I decided to silicone the seams so that the water wouldn't cause a problem. Now, the humidity is staying ridiculously low. Could it be because the system is TOO air tight and the air pressure now created is exchanging too much air? If it is what could be a possible fix? My setup is in my pictures.

i had a problem with vicks and low humidity, and eventually...a burned out unit.

as it turns out, if you close the main hole, and drill your own for tubes...if your tubes arent big enough, it creates a back pressure within the system, thus allowing moisture that would've otherwise left the humidifier, to go into the inner mechanics....over time your humidifier starts slowing down and getting bogged, and will eventually stop working...

thats the only assumption i have regarding this...
and yea, i had the same problem, leaky humidifier that i wanted to fix...

well as it turns out, that leak was the sign that internal pressure was forcing water out.

my solution, after buying a new humidifier, was to tape/silicone a dryer vent duct tube over the original hole, and then feed that big tube into the closet/box/etc.

that way, the tube is more than adequate to handle all of the air the humidifier can put out.

If you can't use dryer tubing for some reason, I'd say the minimum inner diameter you should use for you tubing is around 2". If you go that route, drill some small holes where the tube meets the humidifier. They will help relieve any back pressure that builds up.
