Can I build my casing before cakes are fully colonized?

Hello all, I have been trying to get my shrooms grown in time for a camping trip. I have 11 BRF pf tek 1/2 pints incubating. It has been three weeks since innoc. They seem to be roughly 3/4 colonized. Am I able to cut the uncolonized parts of my cakes and start building my casing before full colonization? I know...I know.. be patient, but will it work? I am not worried about yeilding a shit-ton as they are basically only for my personal use once a week or so over the summer. Also I have 12 pint jars a couple of weeks behind that are also colonizing....so anyway I feel I have more than I can handle as it is. Is it going to make a huge difference in my yield than if say I wait till they look 100% then wait another 3-4 days for the inside to finish. Thanks guys peace

If you try and case them before they are done colonizing you have a better chance at it getting contaminated. Why waste all of your effort?
How much time do you have until the camping trip? If all else fails just buy some mushrooms somewhere else if they aren't done, because it's worth the wait.
How are you gonna take care of em while you're gone though?

Leave them in the jars till you get back, or case/fruit them right before you leave. If You case with 3/4th done jars, more than likely youl get contamn

Two weeks.
Gee I wish...I'm a 35 y/o professional and do not know anyone that can sell me shrooms. I have asked around, but everyone remotely connected to that scene will say something to the effect of,
"Nah dude but if you find any..man I'd like to get some myself". etc etc...or worse yet they'll say,
"Ah yah I can get shrooms..yah anytime..yah I gotta hookup." Then I say, "ok how can we do this". Then they'll say,
"Ahh yah ahhh 'my guy' is like down in Florida or something so like I havent seen any shrooms in like a year so I like cant get any right now so like if you come across any I'd like to get some myself." and on and on and on
This is why I researched and decided to grow my own, but needless to say I am getting impatient to fruit.
Anybody in Dayton/Columbus have shrooms

Two weeks eh?
I wonder which would be faster, casing cakes, or doing a straw ball?
Cakes have to re-knit and penetrate a casing, straw ball is just a matter of days until fruiting conditions can be applied.

Nobody really will sell you shrooms, but ask if someone will go hunting with you(if your where shrooms grow) and youll have great sucess. Just wait man, I waited 9 months, and wasted like 600$ when I was 15, but have had shrooms ever since(im 20). Sell a man a fish, hell eat for a day, teach a man to fish, hell eat for a lifetime

I did 3 casings with jars that were partially colonized recently: I cut off as much uncolonized substrate as possible, and took extra precautions against contamination (basically the steps you do when inoculating jars) at the moment it is fruiting very well...
however the other 2 I got sloppy and didn't really take much effort into removing uncolonized sub., they both contaminated
I did this because just like you I'm leaving for a trip for a month and want to be done with it before I leave. If I had the time I would have just waited.
So I guess do it, if you must. Just be extra careful and take off as much uncolonized sub. as possible, cant stress that enough
good luck

Just an idea.
Best way to get spawn with cakes is to run them through a cheese grater.

For best results, you want to wait at least one week past full colonization before birthing or spawning, so I'd suggest tequila for this camping trip. Patience is a virtue and all that. . . RR

if its been 3 weeks they are going slowww, maybe let some more air in the jars should do the tirck. Loosen the lids a bit or turn them upside down. What i used to do is take them out of the jars and remove the uncolonied substrate under the running water in the sink, or if its a large area, cut the cake with a steril knife up to the point where its full colonized, then crumble them up in a ziplock bag and case. Never had contams. try it with some cakes. leave the rest to fully colonize. My 2 cents Later
