Curecat will only tell the poster to edit the post in order to fit the guidlines for posting an ID request.

I, on the other hand will tell the poster that it is not a bizar fungus, but rather a normal fungus which has been beaten-up so it looks bizar.

Nevertheless, I cannot Identify the species of the mushroom, because the poster will have to follow the ID request guidlines, for a positive ID.

Woah!  Gone for a couple days and everyones hating on me?!

What the heck!  Especially you Psiclops!

I can safely assume that because the poster mentioned that he found the mushroom a few years back, he has nothing more than a photo.
Psiclops, I am not going to ask for him to follow the ID guidelines because I know he cannot give much if any more info.

Further more, the mushroom may be slightly ragged, however, it is very obvious to me that the odd characteristics are due to deformation, and not simply deterioration.
At no point, do I think this mushroom fit the description of a normal fruiting body for its species.

Look at the gills- they are intact, yet feathery in appearance.
I frequently find mushrooms which are growing oddly- with a mishapen stipe and oddly formed cap, due to pinning under a root of large piece of grass or other object, and having to grow irregularly to try and reach moving air so they can deposit spores into the wind.

There are, what appear to be rotting specimens around the mushroom.

Anyone else want a piece?!?

Well, I think that's an amazing looking mushroom... like it's calling a meeting or preaching or rallying...

Its an inocybe that was eaten by a snail when it was real young.

Alan - It Could be.

You cannot know that for sure from that photo. It might be an Inocybe- in fact, it is a good guess- and a snail might have attacked it. But there is simply not enough information that can be drawn from one photo, to definitively conclude the identity or cause of deformation.

The indented crease going up the stalk is a trait i find persistent among mushrooms which were not able to grow normally, due to some blockage- a root, another mushroom, large stick, etc.

That's an interesting observation.

Hmmmm.

I bet it applies to a lot of things.

When i found it it didnt appear to me as being eaten or rotten. It had this kinda mutant alien look. Some orange peel fungus was growing around it. I reckon its a deformed ordinary species but it sure looked cool!

Inocybe is likely.
Other possibilities I can think of.... Agrocybe, Tubaria, Cortinarius, Tricholoma, Marasmius, Hebeloma, and Limacella.
