basically this guy wanted to suck David Lynch's penis and thought by making this movie it could possibly happen.

there is nothing deep about it, it is vague, poo-poo fluff, almost on the same level as the 2012 post currently on this board.

I came pretty close to actually doing it. I was about 10ft away from David at the premiere of Inland Empire in Chicago.

P.S - Yeah Donnie Darko is fucking gay.

i love the movie. it's the pretentious pricks that think it's pretentious. take it for what it's worth. it's not trying to make any statements or be intelligent. it's a film that shows us the mind of some fucked up kid. nothing else

The story goes, or the way that I was told
There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low
And so he called all the wise men to the hall
And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls
But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring
It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king
Engraved in black, it had no front or back
But there were words around the band that said
Just know: This Too Shall Pass

Don't worry about it, it's hard being better than everyone, so I feel your pain. But, my pain is still better.

I like the way you think

PS-- I'm not trying to knock the critics--but I appreciate someone who respects others opinions without feeling the need to denigrate their taste because of it not being "cool" to them or their crowd.

I could care less how "cool" it is, I think it's a bad flick. Maybe not bad, but I don't see why everyone seems to hype it (definitely way more people love it than hate it that I've come across.)

Why, jewunit-- because they like it.

It's perfectly fine that you don't, and now everyone knows it.

I didn't see it until a few years after it was released, and I thought it was an OK movie-- not bad at all.

Best--

well, first time i watched it, i didn't get it...

so i watched it again, cuz i thought i had missed something...

i still don't get it.

I'm not calling it a bad movie, i just don't understand it. i felt like it really just left you with alot of questions and only assumptions for answers. I guess i expected some profound explanation for it all in the end, but i never got it.
call me simple, but i don't like to be more confused at the end of a movie than i am half way through.

Donnie Darko basically is an emo superhero.
There's no better description that doesnt give the plot away.

Nice to watch, but only once.

When they're playing Joy Division it must be a great party

There's a difference between liking a movie and hyping it up to be amazing.

I still suggest people watch it, for various reasons.

I think the most intriguing aspect/topic of that movie was 'time travel' and the wormholes, or essences of people that would come out of their body

I love that movie!!!
the songs are great
the characters are real and fantasy breaks into reality in many scenes.
I had many lucid dreams about this movie, watched it about 6 times, somehow I find it poetic,it's a celebration of useless yet fascinating theories of time travel.I think the meaning is that choices determine alternate realites which coexist in a fucked up brain, and when compared to reality they mean to be an excape from an awful situation the main character is not able to turn to his own good.
It's depressing and dark, yet comforting, and the music is great!
overall nothing special, but felt different from anything I'd seen before
to all they're own taste!

A lot of the movie goes unexplained until you look up the book that the old lady wrote. It's online. Once you read it, it all falls into place. Why they thought that was a good idea, I have no clue.

If you dont get it, google the Philosophy of Time Travel and it will explain the events of the movie, or watch the directors cut which features texts that help you understand the movie. Great fucking movie in my opinion.  :killerrabbit:

One of goals of art (besides being an outlet for the artist) is to communicate with the viewer....to invoke emotion.

Don't all movies serve no other purpose than to make money? Sure to entertain, but no one makes movies for free....they all want money.

I can't believe some of the replies here.

So what if he cries, that makes him a "little boy". Thats ridiculous. Crying is part of the human experience or are some of us robots? Would you not cry at any age if someone close to you died?

I thought the movie was about looking at things in a different perspective, explaining that things aren't what they seem.

I really enjoyed it.
